Q: I had a new timing belt installed in my 2002 Honda Accord LX , the car shifts rough, why?
I have a 2002 Honda Accord LX with 122,000 miles. Yesterday, I had the timing belt, tensioiner belt, water pump, spark plugs, thermostat, ac/alternator belt, belt replaced. All the parts were bought from the Honda Dealer, except the spark plugs. The plugs were the same NGK platinum as the dealer but bought at Advance Auto Parts. After it was done, when I drive the car, when the car shifts gears between 2000 rpm and 3000 rpm, it seems rough, like a drag/hesitation (like driving in a low gear on a mountain). I took it to another mechanic, he felt the problem and said that new belts are put on 'tight' and it will lossen up 1000+ miles. I took it to the dealer and he said he would have to open up the car to tell what is wrong. He could not feel the problem when driving. I told the dealer about the 'tight belt' opinion of the mechanic and he said no such thing existed. Help! Do valve timings, tensioners have anything to do with this? Thanks!!! I told the dealer about the 'tight belt' opinion of the mechanic and he said no such thing existed. 1. Can these changes effect timing? 2. Could the 'tension' be off? Thanks!!! Thanks all for your input. Here is the update. I took the car into another mechanic who said the timing was off. He redid the timing belt and found out that the belt was was off and there was a screw that was stripped. After fixing it, the problem is lessened but still there. I have been googling again going crazy. I have been studying the symptoms trying to give you a better understanding, here are the symptoms Symptom: 1. Rough Idle/high idle over 1000 rpm when starting 2. Gears change are not smooth, it seems gears are changing at a higher rpm, making a deep sound (like driving in a low gear) 3. Vibration Google suggests: 1. Balance shaft problems 2. Engine mount repair 3. Transmission service I don't understand why this started after the timing belt change? Can you comment on google suggestions?

A: Does your car have a V6 engine? The Accord with V6 is notorious for having a troublesome automatic transmission from the late 90s and early 2000s. Look up "Accord transmission problem" on the internet. There was a secret extended warranty - it may apply for your car. However, initially at least, the warranty applied to 2000 and 2001 Honda cars. Ask the dealer or a transmission specialist about the transmission. Honda does not make conventional automatic transmissions. Their transmissions do not make use of planetary gearsets. Instead, they have sliding gears on parallel axes. It's not just the V6 models with the problems. Some owners of 4-cylinder models have also experienced problems with their transmissions.

Q: Why does my Honda Accord 2002 LX jerks so bad?
When i accelerate to 5-10 mph or 15-20mph and it shifts gear, i got automatic, it jerks bad when i drive fast or something. When i drive fast going down a downhill, and i press brake a little hard, it jerks too. When it doesn't completely stop to around 5-10 mph and i accelerate agian it jerks reallllllly bad. Is something wrong with the transmission? Should i replace it? Thanks

A: Sounds like drive axel is worn out. CV joint need to be replaced. Do you hear a clicking noise when you make a sharp right or left turn? Thats the answer.

Q: My 2002 Honda Accord LX V6 hesitates to start on cold days.?
My 2002 Honda Accord LC V6 hesitates to start on cold days (temp below 40 degrees. Once I start the engine (even for just a minute) and restart the engine, the car starts fine. Also the engine is noisy until the car warms up. I have no engine lights that come on, nothing to indicate a problem. A: Reason 1 - Gasoline, like any other liquid, evaporates less when it is cold. You have seen this -- if you pour water onto a hot sidewalk it will evaporate a lot faster than it will from a cooler place like a shady sidewalk. When it gets really cold, gasoline evaporates slowly so it is harder to burn it (the gasoline must be vaporized to burn). Sometimes you will see people spray ether into their engines in cold weather to help them start -- ether evaporates better than gasoline in cold weather. Reason 2 - Oil gets a lot thicker in cold weather. You probably know that cold pancake syrup or honey from the refrigerator is a lot thicker than hot syrup or honey. Oil does the same thing. So when you try to start a cold engine, the engine has to push around the cold, gooey oil and that makes it harder for the engine to spin. In really cold places people must use synthetic motor oils because these oils stay liquid in cold temperatures. Reason 3 - Batteries have problems in cold weather, too. A battery is a can full of chemicals that produce electrons (see How Batteries Work for more information). The chemical reactions inside of batteries take place more slowly when the battery is cold, so the battery produces fewer electrons. The starter motor therefore has less energy to work with when it tries to start the engine, and this causes the engine to crank slowly. All three of these problems can make it impossible to start an engine in really cold weather. People either keep their cars in heated garages or use "block heaters" to get around these problems. A block heater is a little electric heater that you plug into the wall to keep the engine warm.

Q: i need to find out the engine main and rod bearing color for a honda accord 2002 lx?
the engine main and rod bearing on my honda accord 2002 lx comes in colors ..but how can i know which color is the right one for my car... i call de dealear and they say that i have to take the crank out so i can find a code of numbers and letters there .but i cant ; cuz in order to take the crank out i need to take the engine as well... ...any other ideas of how can i know the color....or where else to check...?

A: There is no other way than to dismantle the engine and look at the back side of the bearing inserts. This is the same with any motor unless you know what has been done to the engine there is no way to know what is inside of the engine except to physically look.

Q: Will 15" wheels from a 2002 Honda Accord EX fit my 1993 Accord LX?
My 1993 Accord LX sedan presently has the OEM 14" wheels with covers. The 2002 Accord EX sedan wheels are 15" rims. Both are 4 lug but seller said they might still not be compatable. How can I tell?

A: The person above has it right, the 4cyl accords are 4x114.3, the 6cyl are 5x114.3. But they don't fit just any 4 lug prelude. Preludes from 92-96 are 4x114.3, all years before that are 4x100.

Q: Honda Accord 2002 LX Transmission problem?
Hi, I think i have a problem with my transmission. I called Honda of Serramonte and asked them how much would it cost to replace the transmission and they said $3,800. I was wondering if it could be cheaper because my miles is 64,000. I bought it from another person from the newspaper. I forgot to tell the Honda guy that my miles were 64,000. I read some reviews online and some people said they got their transmission fixed for free and their miles were a little over the warranty. I don't think there are any recalls for Honda Accords 2002. If there is do you have a website for it or something? I tried looking for it. I called American Honda today and they said to go have it checked by a local dealership. I heard there are recalls for the accord from a lot of people but I can't find it anywhere on the website.

A: Bring it to the dealer. I believe the 2002 Honda Accord's had a warranty extension covering the transmission to 110,000 miles because so many of them were defective. They should replace it for free.

A: It sounds like the sensor could be clogged or the float is stuck. Before taking it in the have it repaired try this: Drain the wiper fluid out to add some CLR to hot water. Fill up the reservoir and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Now disconnect the tubes that lead into your fluid nozzles (the squirters on the hood of the car) Use your pump to dicharge the reservoir, this should help free up any stuck sensor and flush out any hard water build up in the tubes.

Q: Problems with 2002 Honda brake light staying on?
I have a 2002 Honda Accord LX. The brake light on the dash won't go off. I pull up & release the brake, jiggle it, whatever, but it stays on. Any help will be appreciated, because as we all know the dealership will probably charge me a couple of hundred.

A: go to a honda dealer and buy a new master cylinder cap and strainer its a very common problem that light comes on both with the parking brake and with low fluid since the cap is defective it thinks theres low fluid and turns the light on
